Sexual Violence is a gendered crime
(82%) (Australian Institute of Criminology 2004), while 98% of sexual assault offenders are male (ABS 2004). The gender gap widens even further when using adult statistics with 97% of adult sexual assault victims being women (CASA House 2000). This is because one in four females and one in eight males are sexually assaulted by the time they reach the age of 18 (Child Commission 1997). Even though adult males can be sexually assaulted the assault is most likely to have occurred when they were a child.
