81.1% of women did not report sexual assaults to police compared to 1996 data of 85.1% who did not report to police (ABS 2005).
Acquittals for sexual assault cases are more common than all other serious offences. In 2006 58% of sexual assaults were acquitted compared 22% of illicit drug offences resulting in an acquittal (Australian Institute of Criminology 2007).
